History of Modhera Sun Temple

Modhera sun temple was built in 1026 AD, before Konark Temple, by Solanki King Bhimdev. Modhera temple is dedicated to god Sun. Also, The Modhera sun temple is Located on the tropic of cancer, because place where earth stops its north movement and Sun God was worshiped with every rise so that’s why this sun temple is on tropic of cancer.

How to reach Modhera Sun Temple

Well, You can reach Modhera sun temple by road or by train. first, you can reach Mehsana district. Mehsana district is the nearest city of the Ahmedabad. when you reach Mehsana you can take a highway to Modhera sun temple. Its 26 Km distance between Mehsana to Modhera sun temple. Also, you can reach Modhera by train you can take the train from Ahmedabad and reach Mehsana railway station and then take a can and reach Modhera sun temple.

This Surya Kund is used to store pure water and it’s 100 sq meters long. Around this Surya Kund, 108 idols surround the steps exist. a huge ‘torana’ is In front of this kund leads to the Sabha Mandap.  also around this kund, there are many steps and its look very cool. I am setting this place at early morning before sunrise and it was an amazing experience in my life and the atmosphere was good.

Guda Mandap in Modhera Sun Temple

Guda Mandao is a favorite part of the Modhera sun temple. also, Guda mandap is supported by a lotus-base plinth. Guda hall Mandap is used to house the idol of the Sun. The curved wall of Guda temple was told that human life like the vicious circle of birth and death. Also, Guda Mandap is like transcend journey from death to moksha.

Sabha Mandap in Modhera Sun Temple

Sabha Mandap is an assembly hall where all religious gatherings and conferences are conducted. The four gate exists in this sabha mandap so all four-way is open to enter and exit from Sabha mandap. In Sabha Mandap 52 delicately carved pillars. The intricate carvings depict scenes from the life of Lord Krishna, Mahabharata, Ramayana.

The Sabha mandap is the main attraction of this sun temple and it was the best architecture in Gujarat. every year many domestic and Internation traveler are visiting Modhera sun temple. And its amazing experience where you know the Sun temple history.
