How to Handle the Hot Season While Traveling Through Thailand

If you are planning to travel through Thailand between the months of March and June, you will be in the country in its hot season. At this time of year, temperatures can soar, and humidity levels can rise, so it’s important that you keep yourself protected and hydrated throughout your stay. Here are a few tips and tricks to handle the sun in Thailand.

Protect Your Head

When out and about in Thailand, it’s important to avoid exposing your scalp to direct sunlight. As temperatures can get unbearably hot, you should carry a hat, cap or scarf around with you. Having something to protect your head will ensure you do not get burned. You should also invest in sunglasses to shield your eyes from the sun.

When you face humidity and heat, you will sweat much more. Therefore, it’s essential that you keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Make sure to aim for 3-4 liters of water each day and always carry a water bottle with you that you can refill. It’s best to avoid caffeinated drinks such as Coke and Pepsi as they can cause you to dehydrate much quicker. While it may feel like a chore to drink so much water, your body will thank you in the long run.

Wear Appropriate Clothing

Make sure to apply sunscreen 15 minutes before going out in the sun. You should use enough sunscreen to cover all areas of your body that are exposed to the sun, including the face, neck, shoulders, arms and legs. If you aren’t keen on regularly applying conventional sunscreen due to the number of chemicals found in them, consider a natural alternative like coconut sunscreen lotion.
